01 Dia Designing On A Mannequin

During ADW, Design Institute Amman will be offering 4 different workshops to pique your interest in fashion design and typography. The workshops, led by industry professionals from the region, will be short yet intense introductions that will pave the way to a new set of skills and knowledge.

In Edelina Joyce Issa’s Skirt Design and Construction workshop, participants will be led from process to conceptualization to create a skirt of their own. Through discussions and exercises, they will be shown how to research a theme, develop it into a capsule collection of basic elasticated waist skirts, and how to pattern-cut and construct their final chosen skirt.

Edelina Joyce Issa will also lead a two-day workshop titled Designing on the Mannequin. Participants will learn about the principles of fashion design by experimenting with fabric directly onto the mannequin. They will be taught how to drape and pin the fabric to develop silhouettes, and then develop experimental ideas on paper to create a capsule collection of draped designs.

Tarek Atrissi will be leading a workshop on Advanced Arabic Type Design. This three-day workshop will address both the design and technical aspect of the process of conceptualizing, creating, and producing an Arabic typeface. This workshop is open to participants with a strong interest in type design or with previous experience in Arabic type design wishing to advance their design and technical skills.

An open talk titled Experience in Design Practice in the Arab World will also be hosted by Tarek Atrissi at the Zain Cultural Plaza, where he will be covering the design and graphic approach of his design house‭.‬

Caterina Filice will also be discussing the future of sustainability in fashion design during her talk Ethical is the New Black‭, taking place at the Zain Cultural Plaza during ADW.
