Aziza Chaouni Projects (ACP) is a multi-disciplinary design firm with offices in Toronto, Canada and Fez, Morocco. ACP teams expand and contract as the firm collaborates with a wide range of experts, such as ecologists, contractors, geographers, sociologists, economists, and hydrologists, as well as in-house collaborators. The firm believes that dialogue among experts lays fertile ground for innovation.

Golden Globe by Aziza Chaouni ProjectsThanks to its affordability, ease of implementation and flexibility, the cinder block is the most prevalent constructive component used in developing countries, in both formal and informal construction. Made from cast concrete, it is used grouted or un-grouted to build wall bearing and infill walls. The cinder block comes in varying sizes, numbers of holes, hole types and fittings. It can be easily cut and adjusted to fit construction needs.

An inside look into the Golden GlobeAside from its generic usage, the cinder block is sometimes used in unexpected ways: to create retaining walls, planters, stairs, furniture, perforated walls when turned sideways, and other uses.

Imprinting the cinder blocks with gold leafRecognizing the pervasiveness of the cinder block culture, this exhibition seeks to test how its constructive nature could be further investigated. The Golden Globe is built using regular concrete blocks imprinted with gold leaf pattern.
